Indian diversified business group LNJ Bhilwara recently announced that the company is ready to develop lithium-ion battery business. It is reported that the group will establish a 1GWh lithium battery factory in Pune, western India, in a joint venture with Replus Engitech, a leading technology start-up manufacturer, and Replus Engitech will be responsible for providing battery energy storage system solutions.
The plant will reportedly produce battery components and packaging, battery management systems, energy management systems and box-type battery energy storage systems. Target applications are large-scale renewable energy integration equipment, microgrids, railways, telecommunications, data centers, transmission and distribution demand management, and power generation façades in the commercial and residential sectors. In terms of electric vehicle products, it will provide battery packs for two-wheeled vehicles, three-wheeled vehicles, electric buses and four-wheeled vehicles.
The plant is expected to be operational in mid-2022 with a first-phase capacity of 1GWh. The capacity will be increased to 5GWh in the second phase in 2024.
In addition, HEG, a division of the LNJ Bhilwara Group, also focuses on graphite electrode manufacturing, and the company is said to have the largest single-site graphite electrode manufacturing plant in the world.
Riju Jhunjhunwala, vice chairman of the group, said: “We hope to lead the world with new norms, relying on our existing capabilities in graphite and electrodes, as well as our new business. Made in India contributes.”
